Braces Tightening Pain
After your braces are tightened, the pain can be worse than anticipated. We recommend over-the-counter pain relievers, such as Advil and Tylenol. You can also buy over-the-counter toothache and gum relief gel, such as Orajel, which numbs the pain for some time.
Mouth Sores
Mouth sores are common with braces. For traditional braces, especially metal can cause your gum to have blisters. For lingual braces, this can cause sores on your tongue. We recommend using dental wax to cover the bracket that is causing these sores. Over-the-counter pain relief is also recommended, such as Advil, Talon, and Orajel.
Loose or Broken Brackets, Bands, or Wires
If a bracket, band, or wire breaks off or gets loose, please contact ASAP to schedule an appointment to get it fixed. Until then, just leave it alone so it does not get worse. If it is causing pain, please take Advil or Tylenol, and email or call us at our emergency number for the next steps.
Bleeding Gums
Sometimes your braces can cause gums to bleed if they get scratched. If this is the case, get some over-the-counter toothpaste that is specialized for bleeding gums. Also, swish warm water and salt to clean the wound. Please let us know ASAP for the next steps and to schedule an appointment to have it looked at.
